SUMMARY: Counterpart International is currently seeking New Business Development (NBD) Consultants to assist work with NBD team to produce high quality technical proposals for bilateral and multilateral donors. Key responsibilities include participation in program design, contribution of technical writing, and review and editing of technical proposals. Qualified candidates will have strong knowledge of civil society strengthening, local governance, food security, nutrition, and/ or capacity building topics, trends and best practices. Successful candidates will also have a proven track record of writing winning proposals, preferably for USAID, as well as strong contextual knowledge of one or particular or more geographic regions including Afghanistan, Africa, Asia and Eurasia, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and Caribbean. This is a short-term consulting position that is filled on an as-needed basis. The position can be based remotely and may require some travel. This position will report to a designated NBD staff person.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as an integral member of a proposal team.
- Collaborate with members of the NBD team in relevant technical areas of a given proposal.
- Aid in the development of strategic partnerships with field-based civil society organizations, US-based and international NGOs or private sector groups.
- On designated proposals, serve as the lead or support technical writer, reviewer, or editor as appropriate.
- Design assessment questionnaires and perform field assessments to collect information from local and international stakeholders.
- Provide timely delivery of assigned deliverables including technical drafts, pricing, implementation plans, institutional capabilities, past performances and ensure their compliance with all donor and Counterpart requirements.
- Participate in visioning, design and other technical and cost proposal review meetings and provide constructive feedback.
- Flag potential safety and security issues for the proposal team to ensure they are adequately addressed in the program design and budget.
- Assist with dissemination of job descriptions and refer qualified personnel for key staff positions.
- Familiarize with Counterpart principles in order to build program design which effectively represents the Counterpart way.
- Familiarize with relevant current and past programs which may complement a given proposal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Proven track record of designing and writing winning proposals, preferably for USAID.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with technical writing in at least one of the following areas: civil society strengthening, advocacy, service delivery, local governance, transparency and accountability, food security, nutrition, WASH, youth engagement, social inclusion, capacity building.
- Proven ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders and develop partnerships.
- Experience designing and performing field assessments.
- Strong planning, organizational and communication skills, and ability to communicate in cross-cultural settings.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as part of diverse teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and provide deliverables on a tight schedule.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Extensive experience with USAID/USG policies, frameworks, rules and regulations.
- Experience with/cursory knowledge of Counterpart International principles and programs.
- Strong contextual knowledge of one or more geographic regions including Afghanistan, Africa, Asia and Eurasia, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and Caribbean.
- Fluency in one or more foreign languages: French, Spanish, or Arabic.
