Maintenance Technician/ Custodian/ Escort [Top Secret Clearance]


PAE is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician/ Custodian/ Escort to support the US Department of State and will be stationed at Kabul, Afghanistan. The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites.


The Maintenance Technician/ Custodian/ Escort will:



  • Perform minor repairs of electrical, plumbing and heating systems, general maintenance, carpentry and escorting of un-cleared personnel.




  • Perform minor repairs to electrical outlets, faucets, shower stalls and A/C units.




  • Maintain and repair building woodwork and equipment – bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings and trim. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions.




  • Use a variety of carpenter’s hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments.




  • Make standard shop computations relating to work dimensions and reads blueprints.




  • Construct, install and repair wooden structures and fixtures.




  • Build and erect wooden frames, flooring, stairs, rail framing and installs doors and hardware.




  • Perform painting and sheet rock repair.




  • Select materials and develops estimates and purchase orders for new work.




  • Escort un-cleared personnel into designated areas and monitors them while they perform maintenance duties.




  • Clean offices, corridors, bathrooms, stairwells, and other areas, including floors, walls and windows. Individual shall also shampoo carpets as necessary. Other duties include: dusting, sweeping, washing, vacuuming, polishing, replacing lights, trash collection and removal, and replenishment of toilet supplies.




  • Perform normal custodial services on regular workdays (schedule can fluctuate and is on as as-needed basis). Daytime cleaning will be accomplished in areas where after-hours access to controlled areas is not permitted.




  • Perform other duties as assigned.




  • The candidate is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to critical issues.




  • Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects at the Consulate in Herat and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.




  • Work in a traditional office setting as well as embassy Controlled Access Areas (CAA) buildings, non-CAA buildings, Staff Diplomatic Apartments (SDA) and other assigned areas.



The Maintenance Technician/ Custodian/ Escort must have following qualifications and experience to qualify for this position:



  • A High school diploma or GED required.




  • Skilled trades certificate in Electrical OR Plumbing OR HVAC is highly desirable.




  • Must have at least 2 years of demonstrated experience in maintenance of O&M with good customer skills are required.




  • Must be able to perform physical labor including safely lifting a minimum of 70 pounds.




  • Experience in rough framing and minor masonry work is required.




  • Must have basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, power tools, painting and electrical testing equipment required.




  • Expertise in standard shop computations and measuring instruments is required.




  • Knowledge and use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) is desirable.




  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.




  • Must have good organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.




  • Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.




  • Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.




  • Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment preferred.




  • Citizenship: US Citizenship is required for this position.




  • Clearance: Must have an active Top Secret security clearance.




  • Must be willing to travel periodically (with extended overnight stays) as required while working on projects at other locations in Afghanistan.
