(AFG-MAZAR I SHARIF) Tool Room Mentor


Job Summary


The Tool Room Mentor leads a tool crib that services maintenance personnel by ordering, receiving, sorting, issuing and inventorying tools, parts, and stock.


Principal Accountabilities


(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)


  • Select, issue tools and equipment requested by shop personnel, and accept return of the same.

  • Maintain appropriate records on a menu-driven computer system.

  • Maintain reorder levels by submitting replenishment requests.

  • Mentor and teach other tool room employee’s and supply technicians on processes and procedures of inventory, which may include different types of parts for aircraft.

  • Keep records of tools issued to and returned by workers, search for lost or misplaced tools.

  • Prepare periodic inventory or keep perpetual inventory and requisitions stock as needed.

  • Unpack and store new equipment.

  • Visually inspect tools or measures with micrometer for wear or defects and report damaged or worn-out equipment to superiors.

  • May coat tools with grease or other preservative, using a brush or spray gun.

  • May attach identification tags or engrave identifying information on tools and equipment using electric marking tool.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills


  • Working knowledge of common aviation hand tools

  • Working knowledge of aviation special tools and test sets

  • Working knowledge of tool and FOD control program

  • Working knowledge of calibration program

  • Working knowledge of inventory control of tools and common hardware

Experience & Education


  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as Tool Room Mentor or equivalent field of work.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Completion of technical education a plus.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand, bend, at the waist and knees and climb for most of the shift

  • Might be exposed to hot and cold environments for prolonged periods

  • Ability to meet physical, medical and other requirements as required by contracting agency.
