Description:


The Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation, and Nutrition ( IHSAN ) is a five year project whose goal is to assisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan ( GIRoA ) , civil society organizations ( CSOs ) , and the private sector to carry out and scale up evidence based nutrition and water, hygiene, and sanitation ( WASH ) interventions that will improve the nutritional status of women and children less than five years old . Specific project objectives include enhancing capacity to institutionalize nutrition programs, increasing adoption of optimal nutrition and hygiene behaviors at community and household levels; and increasing availability of nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation services and products increased . The project will focus on the 10 provinces with poorest nutritional indicators based on the 2014 national nutrition assessment . Recognizing that significant variations in health situations exist between districts and sub districts in each province, we will promote improved nutrient intake and awareness and improved sanitation and hygiene practices by working with provincial health authorities and communities to strive toward improved coverage in priority areas .


Job Summary / Responsibilities:


TheNutrition Technical Specialistwill be an FHI 360 employee working and placed at the IHSAN office in Kabul . Under the guidance of the WASH/Nutrition Director, the Nutrition Technical Specialist will assist with design and coordination of nutrition activity implementation across consortium partners and also monitor activity progress and provide focused technical assistance as needed to consortium partner teams.


The responsibilities of the position include:



  • Assists in the design, development, planning, and implementation of the nutrition activities/projects.




  • Provides technical support in the development and dissemination of tools, strategies, materials, reports,papers, and intervention for nutrition projects.




  • Works closely with assigned team to ensure activities are implemented according to standardoperating procedures(SOP’s).




  • Assists with the implementation of the project by monitoring and documenting processes.




  • Monitors and maintains protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals, training materials andreports.




  • Develops, writes and edits technical briefs, reports, or other necessary documents to facilitate research,best practices, policies and procedures.




  • Conducts searches of published literature on evolving issues in assigned technical area.




  • Responds to requests and inquiries from internal and external staff.




  • Conducts analysis of program implementation to identify areas for improvement and proposeappropriate technical strategy and guidelines.




  • Prepares reports and papers summarizing project results and assists with publications, web pages, and presentations.




  • Delivers presentations at professional meetings and conferences.




  • Ensures project implementation adheres to organization strategy and remains technically sound.



Qualifications:


Experience and Qualifications :



  • Masters degree in health, public health or related field.




  • 5-8 years of technical assistance experience in health, particularly nutrition area.




  • Proficiency with database management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and on-line search tools required.




  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Dari; Pashto fluency is highly desired.




  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethicalissues in assigned areas.




  • Articulate and professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with stakeholders.




  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization(NGO), government agency, orprivate company.




  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and strong ability to manage and meet multiple tasks.




  • Substantial experience of developing working relations with stakeholders and beneficiaries.




  • Working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures with providing technical support for nutrition activities/projects highly desired.




  • Qualified female candidates particularly encouraged to apply.
