(AFG-KANDAHAR) MHE Operator
Job Summary
The Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator primarily operates 4K to 30K forklifts and related vertical handling equipment/vehicles.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Operate forklifts and related machinery and/or vehicles; on some contracts, may also operate Rough Terrain Container Handlers (RTCHs)
- Analyze equipment requests to determine most efficient mode of uploading and downloading material
- Coordinate with Movement Control Team and their customers to schedule movements
- Survey and plan all loads prior to execution
- Ensure equipment is properly utilized, maintained, and stored
- Safely load and carry various awkward and heavy materials
- Assist leadership in ensuring personnel are operating efficiently, safely, and according to procedures
- Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and office duties
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of shop math
- Skill in preparing operational activity reports, quality control assessments, and safety documentation
- Familiar with DOD organization
- Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
- Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment
Experience & Education
- Minimum two (2) years of verifiable experience as an MHE Operator including evaluating equipment capabilities and limitations
- Prefer OCONUS experience operating equipment in an environment with military services, commercial agencies, and host nation elements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Prefer Equipment Operator training and certificate from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), verifiable military or civilian Equipment Operator training from construction field, or related certification issued by a previous employer
- Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds, bend, stoop, and work safely around equipment, materials, supplies, and other items to be handled
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
