Director, Special and Cultivation Events - Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America - New York, NY

An exciting opportunity exists to join a dynamic working environment involved with many of the most important issues facing the nation. Based in our New York City Headquarters, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is seeking an experienced Director, Events.

The Director, Special and Cultivation Events is responsible for overseeing the creation,coordination and execution of special events including the Annual Heroes Gala, fundraising and cultivation events across the country, and third-party fundraising activities. This position will report directly to the Chief Development Officer.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop both short and long term strategy for increasing reach, visibility and cultivation of donor base through organization sponsored events;

  • Assist in the planning and execution of fundraisers and cultivation events, including:
    • Create solicitation materials and marketing content;

    • Conduct research for site visits, and other on-site management duties;

    • Produce all event materials including programs, journals, stage management needs, and goody bags;

    • Manage relationships with external vendors and event partners;

    • Oversee all audio and video content related to event, in collaboration with the Communications Team;

    • Ensure that publication-caliber photographs, logos, and graphics are secured for precise donor recognition;

    • Track guests, RSVPs, seating assignments and event-specific donations;

    • Serve as on-site point of contact for day of event responsibilities;

    • Oversee and manage any event volunteers; and

    • Organize post-event logistics and follow-up, thank you notes and acknowledgements.


  • Lead in all event related meetings and ensure proper communication to staff regarding event goals, responsibilities and follow-up;

  • Supervises data management and reporting systems to coordinate and track all event attendance details. Maintains and analyzes event reports and statistics;

  • Publish accurate and timely internal reports for IAVA staff and leadership regarding revenue and prospect status;

  • Research donors and prospects for current and future event attendance; and

  • Support and play an integral role in other related Development department activities, as needed.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of event management and development experience

    required;

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and Google Apps, Salesforce a plus;

  • Experience in large and small-scale event planning and execution;

  • Thoughtful writing and communications skills;

  • Knowledge of NY Philanthropic community; other regional markets a plus;

  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
