Mi17 Classroom Instructor - Lockheed Martin - Fairfax, VA

Serves as a formal classroom Instructor. Will work directly with “Training Coordinator Will be responsible for; ensuring every SMW student has a training record, the training record is set up correctly, will Instruct classes IAW classroom curriculum to ensure 100% of all PC-12 / Mi-17 Level 3/2/1 Master Task List (MTL) tasks are discussed in a classroom environment. Will participate in on the job training events as applicable. Will take daily attendance, conduct/create tests, provide classroom reports, provide train-the-trainer instruction to PC-12 / Mi-17 mechanics/ avionics mentors. Will be responsible for the safety, security and accuracy of all training materials. Will modify forms, materials, hand-outs, presentations as-if directed working along side curriculum developers. Will use visual aides, and other aviation related materials to assist with knowledge transfer. Will use a blend of OJT, classroom, hybrid training methods to ensure proficiency is attained. Will teach Afghans the importance of becoming Instructors so they can teach the class to other Afghans. Will mentor other Instructors/Afghans as they teach the class. Will provide feedback and modify teaching methods depending on student learning styles. Will report directly to the CLS-A Training Program Manager and ensure all classroom scheduling time and resources are maximized to ensure the greatest training opportunities possible. Will be directly responsible for knowing, following, training and enforcing (to other CLS-A employees) all training department SOP’s and Operating Instructions. Will be responsible for knowing, following and understanding the PWS. Will be required to fill out weekly and monthly reports completely and accurately.

This position is defined as Strategic Review – Aligned to IS&GS.


Basic Qualifications

Four (4) years of direct experience in aircraft maintenance, civilian or military technical school degree, and Airframe & Power Plant (A&P) License. Must be able to perform the full range of airframe and engine maintenance, repair, modifications, inspections and servicing of aircraft in accordance with approved methods, techniques and practices and certify accomplished work. This entails the ability to: troubleshoot engines and systems; use the federal supply system; read and understand technical manuals and schematics; read and interpret all instruments; use special test equipment and tools; research the technical library; perform full system checkouts on all aircraft systems; perform mechanic test flight duties; and perform complete servicing of aircraft. The mechanic may be required to accompany aircraft on project flights away from the work site and perform aircraft maintenance at various locations.


A&P or FCC License, Maintenance Technical Inspector or Quality Assurance background, classroom instructor certification, Master Training Specialist or technical training course completion, at least 3 years classroom instruction experience, experience training with foreign military members (preferably on a transition contract), At least 20 college credit hours and at least 3 years in a Lead/supervisory roll and 3 years’ experience developing and briefing reports. OEM Certification.


An equivalent to the high school diploma or GED and technical school degree is authorized. Two years’ experience or OEM training directly related to the Mi Series Aircraft may be substituted for the education requirements. European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Joint Aviation Authority (JAA), or equivalent regulating agency may be substituted for the FAA airframe license.


NACI or Interim NACI required prior to start date


Active passport with a minimum of 12 months before expiration prior to start date


Visa with multiple entries for 12 months prior to start date


Completion of Customer required International Readiness Certifications. Must be able to pass medical requirements from the US Army CRC deployment center and be able to perform in an austere level 5 environment.


Desired skills

Experience with PC-12


Work experience in austere environments such as Afghanistan


Understanding and accepting local languages, customs and traditions (to be able to work with local customs, transport systems and language interpretation)


Ability to work and live in a team environment


Proficient in Dari a plus, but not required.


Should possess a full understanding of US DoD military aviation maintenance operations.


Military deployment experience is highly desired and deployment experience to the CENTCOM region is desired.


FAA Inspection Authority (IA) a plus
